Friday thoughts

August 31st, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

1. God has allowed me the privilege to be able to learn from some of the best leaders in the country. I am grateful beyond belief for that!

2. Can’t wait to officially kick off the college football season with the Miami game on ESPNU tomorrow!

3. Headed to the Clemson / FSU game on Monday - don’t really like either team, but as a Miami fan, I would rather be cheesegrated than cheer for FSU.

4. Tuesday night we’re off to the Braves / Phillies game and some food at the 755 club.

5. We hung out at the pool tonight with a bunch of friends for London’s birthday party. Much fun.

6. We have some insane ideas for Freedom Church! Way too insane to announce at this point in the game :)

Westridge

August 30th, 2007 | Category: Church Planting

Todd and I went this morning to hang out with Brian Bloye from Westridge.

He was awesome to hang out with and we were able to learn a ton! I didn’t stop writing the entire time we were there.

As a side note, while talking with Brian I learned that Pine Ridge’s own, Tadd Grandstaff, use to be a rapper (6th or 7th grade)! Can’t beat that! Tadd, I ALMOST had a great picture to post…maybe one of these days!

Check it out…

Michael had a great post about the article written by Danny Akin in regard to Public vs. Private schools.

Go check it out here

Unless your favorite movie is Bubble Boy - get out of yours and let’s reach this world we live in!

(It’s irrelevant to me whether you go to public or private school…but a mass exodus would be a disaster)

Catalyst

August 28th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

Just got the confirmation that we are headed to the Catalyst Conference in October. Never been before which is pretty ridiculous - but all that is about to change.

If you are in town - let’s hook up. I would love to connect with some of you out there who I have never met outside of the blogosphere.

Counseling

August 28th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

The meetings this week are piling up. We are meeting with church planters, pastors, groups of people, and a professional counselor. Yes it is voluntary and no I am not about to jump off a tall building or sacrifice small animals!

I want to make the counseling experience a part of my life on a weekly basis, as well as discussing the possibility of requiring it for all staff on a monthly or quarterly basis.

It should be pretty interesting.

Questions

August 27th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

One of the keys to effective leadership is knowing how to ask the right questions.

Too many people think that in order to be a great leader -that they have to have all the answers. This mindset will kill you and the work of God within you.

As a church planter, let me make it very clear that I have more questions than answers. The staff at Freedom spends a ton of time on the phone, traveling, and/or doing whatever it takes to seek out those who can help us move forward in the journey. We have a ton to learn!

With that in mind, I am thankful for the relationships that God has given me and for those who are consistently pouring into my life. There is too much at stake to try and travel this road alone. I am glad that I do not have to!

Elevation

August 26th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

Our trip to Elevation has been unbelievable!

To be honest, there is still so much information to process that I can’t even begin to explain how much we have already learned.

More to come on that very soon!

6. Did I already say that I am going to Elevation this weekend?
