We are in

August 15th, 2007 | Category: Freedom Church

Just got off the phone with Cindy Holland at North Metro Tech and Freedom Church officially has a meeting place!

We are meeting at 3PM today to work out all the details.

More to come on this later, but a huge thank you goes out to the Mayor of Acworth, Tommy Allegood and NMT President, Steve Dougherty!

This is a huge answer to prayer and God continues to bless us in a huge way!

Big Day

August 14th, 2007 | Category: Freedom Church

Just found out that we will hear by lunch tomorrow whether or not we can use the facilities of the school where we desire to meet.

They asked if we would like to schedule a walk through at some point - so things sound extremely promising!

Be praying! I will let you know as soon as I hear something…

Door Knocking

August 14th, 2007 | Category: Church Planting

I think that one of the requirements for planting a church - is filling out a ton of forms every couple days.

These things have a million questions ranging from how many books you are reading to how many doors you have knocked on in the past 30 days. I always feel so strange answering that particular question… Why?

I am not a door to door salesman trying to convince people to buy my “product”. We (and our entire launch team) spend a lot of time and a good bit of money doing whatever it takes to build real relationships with the people in our community. Buying food (cookies, cake, whatever) for the people in our neighborhoods (check). Buying a million doughnuts for the college students in the dorms at KSU (check). Planning random cookouts for people that we don’t even know (check). That is our “knock on doors” philosophy.

We are trying to love people where they are…period. Doesn’t matter if they go to Freedom Church, the church down the street, or they would rather be cheesegrated than show up at a church. Until we show people that we care about them - with no strings attached - our impact will be very limited….

The Owls?

August 13th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

We helped this guy move into his dorm room at KSU this afternoon. The dorms at that school are incredible!

We are going to have a lot of fun getting to know some of the people on his hall.

I am pumped that you are finally here Jesse!

KSU will never be the same!

Lexi officially begins her first day of kindergarten today!

She said this morning that she is nervous and excited. I know her pretty well and she is going to love school - at least at this point in her life.

Launch Team

August 12th, 2007 | Category: Freedom Church

Launch team meetings continue tonight…

It’s a lot of fun getting people together and talking through some of the things that are headed our direction with Freedom Church.

We are going to be talking about several things that will really propel us into the weeks ahead here in Acworth.

One of the things we are passionate about is helping people to serve within the context of their gift setting and “holy discontent”.

That’s what tonight is all about. It should be a lot of fun!

Why put a title, when it doesn’t show up anyway!

August 10th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

inside my head…

1. In TN, you can still get “licks” (spankings) at school. In GA, you prepay your kids lunch online.

2. We have talked to two guys this week about leading worship at Freedom. Pray!

3. I thought someone told me to jump off a bridge today. He didn’t. That is good to know!

4. Someone did tell me that I was a tool of Satan because of our methods of reaching people. Sometimes that makes me laugh and other times - not so much.

5. We still need to raise a LOT of money for this first year of ministry at Freedom Church. A lot!

6. The funds and partnerships are out there - somewhere!

7. Church planting is intense! I am learning to expect the unexpected.

8. Lexi officially knows everyone at her school. She thinks she owns the place!

9. I love GA! I love Acworth! I love Church planting!

Kindergarten

August 10th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

We are getting ready to take Lexi to McCall Primary School for her kindergarten orientation. I honestly don’t know what to think about this.

I do love the fact that she will be in a school that only goes up to first grade. That keeps the psychotic 4th graders away from her :)
Anyway, it should be an interesting morning!

Another ticket

August 09th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

I have definitely gotten my share of tickets since I began driving. Usually, it makes me mad, but I know deep down (very, very, deep) that I was probably guilty. Until today!

Driving down the road, I came to where I would need to make a left turn. The light was green and the van that was on the other end of the street was sitting still. As a result, I turned left before the van even made a move. Then, a Kennesaw Police Officer decided to pull me over for failure to yield and “almost causing an accident”.

Are you serious? At any rate, this is one ticket I will definitely fight. I hope we end up on Judge Judy.

Heatwave

August 08th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

Devin went out of town today for a funeral which means that I am taking care of Lexi and London tonight.

Normally, I would take them to the pool or the playground in the neighborhood, but I am pretty sure that instantaneous melting would occur the moment we walk outside. It is HOT in the ATL! Really hot!
