Just some thoughts

November 30th, 2007 | Category: Random

1. There is a mouse living in/around/under the fireplace. He must die!
2. Went to the mall tonight and saw security guards riding around on Segways…I guess if someone does anything “illegal” they should just run until they find the stairs.
3. London is learning how to Breakdance. That is funny!
4. I have an 80 year old friend named Bart. He is a cool guy. He also studies a book that he believes was brought to earth by aliens. Seriously.
5. Cool stuff to announce on Sunday!
6. Millington HS (back to my Memphis days) is a game away from the State Championship! Made me remember back to the crazy M&M Bowl events at H2O.

Slumber Party

November 29th, 2007 | Category: Freedom Church

I have an adrenaline addiction. Not theory - I really do. Not too big of a deal though - unless I start jumping off of really tall buildings.

With an adrenaline addiction comes the temptation to never stop. Never stop thinking, working, doing, etc., etc. That can be both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it allows you to get a lot done. A curse because it can cause you to sacrifice relationships, etc., because you think everything depends on you.

Psalm 121:3 provides very good news for people like me…”He will not let you stumble, the one who watches over you will not slumber.” God never sleeps. He stays up all night. Every night. As a result, I need to realize that I don’t have to.

Shelter

November 28th, 2007 | Category: Church Planting

One of the challenges that exist in my world is to come out from under the shelter. Not once, but continuously.

Connecting with people involves going to them, not just expecting them to come to us. To intentionally engage real live people - in real live situations - sounds simple, but I am not sure how often it is getting done.

Let’s develop an expectation of engagement. Engaging people who are not like us.

Gratitude

November 27th, 2007 | Category: Random

It is funny how you can be hit with things at the most random times. While answering a ton of emails today, I just stopped…

In an extremely busy and intense time - I am realizing how thankful I am for SO many things.

It’s not just a season of thankfulness. It’s the realization - that it should be, it must be - a way of life.

The blessing of God is apparant in my life. I am willing to bet it is in yours as well.

Update

November 26th, 2007 | Category: Freedom Church

Launch team meetings are going very well! We moved to a larger room which helped a ton last night and it will free up the other room to do a test run of Elevate for the kids over the next few weeks. Good things are happening and momentum continues to build!

At some point this week, I will write about a challenge we are giving our launch team to SACRIFICE as we approach the move from Sunday night at North Star to Sunday morning at North Metro beginning in January. We are asking God to do some HUGE things in the area of GENEROSITY! Can’t wait!

Irreverance

November 25th, 2007 | Category: Church Planting

There’s a lot of debate about how people “do” church, etc. I don’t have time to argue with random people, but I do have time to throw out my thoughts.

I believe that the Bible can and will change the lives of people. As a result, I am willing to do whatever it takes to enable as many people as possible to hear that life changing message.

This is why we are creative, innovative, or whatever other word you want to use.

Because the good news of Jesus Christ is so important - anything less than going all out to make sure people hear it - is irreverance.

1. Woke up this morning to a torrential downpour.
2. Devin and I ran in a 5K anyway and it stopped raining about 15 minutes before the race.
3. Hung out at a coffee shop for a little while, played some football, and had to come back in the house because Mark kicked the football onto the highway - hitting a car - causing intense laughter and more running.

4. Great day so far and we haven’t even eaten yet.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Now, stop reading blogs and go enjoy your friends and family!

Good news…

November 21st, 2007 | Category: Community

Just got word from Todd that the two MAJOR pieces of our Christmas project have potentially come together…

A few big meetings in the next week and we should be good to go!

If all this works as it is right now, I will be instantly forced to become a very big country music fan!

More to come!

A switch

November 20th, 2007 | Category: Random

Not exactly sure what is up, but my friend and web design guru Jon said that I need to move the blog, website, etc., out of the wretched hands of 000domains and into the hands of GoDaddy.

As a result, at some point on Thansgiving day Jrlive.net will be completely down for about 24 hours.

Hopefully, that is what happens and all goes well. If not, sadness will ensue.

Quotatious!

November 20th, 2007 | Category: Quotatious

Long, but GREAT quote from Millard Erickson in Christian Theology (P. 1077)

“The church must be versatile and flexible in adjusting its methods and procedures to the changing situations in the world. It must go where needy persons are found, even if that means a geographical or cultural change. It must not cling to all its old ways. As the world to which it is trying to minister changes, the church will have to adapt its ministry accordingly, but without altering its basic direction. As the church adapts, it will be emulating its Lord, who did not hesitate to come to earth to redeem humanity. In doing so, he took on the condidtions of the human race (Phil. 2:5-8). In similar fashion, the body of Christ will preserve the basic message with which it has been entrusted, and conintue to fulfill the major functions of its task, but will make all legitimate changes necessary to carry out its Lord’s purposes. The stereotypical church-a rural congregation headed by but one minister and consisting of a group of nuclear families who meet at 11AM on Sunday morning in a small white building with a steeple - still exists in some places. But it is the exception. Circumstances are now very different in most parts of the world. If the church has a sense of mission like that of its Lord, however, it will find ways to reach people wherever they are.’
