10%

Category: Church Planting

In every working relationship there is a certain percentage that get’s swept under the rug.

A person may be incredible, but there is that 10% that they could really improve.  Most of the time this never gets talked about because it’s just too awkward to bring into the open.  As a result, those things get ignored and the opportunity to speak into the life of an individual is missed.  This should not be!

As far as Freedom is concerned, we will make it a priority to discuss the 10%.  Is it awkward - sure.  Do I risk offending someone in a key position - maybe.  But, I believe that this little detail is one of the differences between having a good team - and having a great team.

I want the best for our staff.  As a result, we have decided to keep the 10% out in the open.

What do you think?  Do you think we should engage in the 10% conversation?

Engaging the 10% is the only thing that will allow you to really meet needs. A healthy pastor and an honest staff leads to a church that can really do some amazing things for God. Bring it on!

I often use the sandwich method. It allows me to challenge others, but make the other party feel encourage:

First Slice of Bread: Affirm the 90%

Meat/Cheese/Lettuce/Tomato/Mustard: Challenge them on the 10%. The bread allows you to demonstrate a spirit of love and encouragement. However, a sandwich isn’t a sandwich if you only have bread. The substance makes all the difference in the world.

Second Slice of Bread: Affirm them again.

I’ve learned this the hard way. Never have a 10% conversation without making it a 100% one.

Jr, I love this. I’ve known too many churches where they don’t speak to one another and confront one another about issues that, if they were changed or addressed, would allow the church to explode in more awesome ways than we could understand.
This is exactly why I LOVE Freedom Church!
