Quotatious

I am so tired of people believing the lie’s that they are told and/or that they believe about themselves…

“Many people succeed when others do not believe in them. But rarely does a person succeed when he does not believe in himself.”    Herb True

We don’t have the luxury of pleasing everyone.  You are worth it and you do have the capacity to accomplish something great (Eph. 2:10).  Go after it!

Good stuff from Charles Handy

“If all your expectations with life work out well then you probably haven’t pushed yourself far enough. There may be lives out there that you could have lived had you dared more. “

“I learned that in most human situations there is no textbook answer, that everyone is different and that you have to make your own judgments most of the time, make your own decisions and then stand by them. Only in technical matters does the expert know better.”

Quick update

Having a blast hanging out in Cumming at the churchplanters.com conference.

It’s good to catch up with a TON of people and just hear what’s going on all over the country… Great stuff so far and when it’s all said and done, I will link to some guys so you can check out what’s been said from the stage.

Quote of the week comes from none other than the Freedom Church EP -Todd Lollis…Deep thoughts!

“I love Sunday’s at Freedom Church! I just wish it came around at least once a week”.

“The positive things you do in excess, followers will emulate in moderation. The negative things you do in moderation, they will emulate in excess.”

This is a great reminder to live a life of grace, generosity, and sacrifice. Everyone is a leader to someone!

Well Done

December 07th, 2007 | Category: Quotatious

At this stage in the journey, we believe we have some pretty good ideas - but that’s all they are - ideas. Nothing has really been tested in our context. As a result, I tell every church planter that calls that the advice I give them is theory.

That being said, Tom Brady, just made a statement that reiterates what I am trying to communicate. In reference to a young guy on another team who guaranteed a victory over the Patriots this week…Brady commented, “Well done is better than well said”.

As we continue on the journey with Freedom Church - my desire is to make sure we always remember that. When it’s all said and done, I want to hear “Well Done”, more than just “Well said”.

Long, but GREAT quote from Millard Erickson in Christian Theology (P. 1077)

“The church must be versatile and flexible in adjusting its methods and procedures to the changing situations in the world. It must go where needy persons are found, even if that means a geographical or cultural change. It must not cling to all its old ways. As the world to which it is trying to minister changes, the church will have to adapt its ministry accordingly, but without altering its basic direction. As the church adapts, it will be emulating its Lord, who did not hesitate to come to earth to redeem humanity. In doing so, he took on the condidtions of the human race (Phil. 2:5-8). In similar fashion, the body of Christ will preserve the basic message with which it has been entrusted, and conintue to fulfill the major functions of its task, but will make all legitimate changes necessary to carry out its Lord’s purposes. The stereotypical church-a rural congregation headed by but one minister and consisting of a group of nuclear families who meet at 11AM on Sunday morning in a small white building with a steeple - still exists in some places. But it is the exception. Circumstances are now very different in most parts of the world. If the church has a sense of mission like that of its Lord, however, it will find ways to reach people wherever they are.’
